A group of dedicated elementary school parents has created a new infographic that highlights an important conversation happening in our community: how school choice strengthens our rural school. The infographic illustrates how welcoming students from surrounding communities can expand diversity within classrooms while also bringing additional per-pupil funding that supports programs, staffing, and opportunities for all students. For small rural schools, even modest enrollment increases can make a meaningful difference—helping maintain class offerings, sustain extracurricular activities, and preserve the vibrant learning environment families value.
The infographic also reflects a broader message from parents: our school is not only a place for learning, but a hub for community connection. By embracing thoughtful enrollment options, schools like ours can grow more resilient while creating a richer educational experience where students learn alongside peers from a wider range of backgrounds and perspectives.

At the same time, our community recognizes that long-term fiscal sustainability requires careful planning. A community task force, The Pelham Elementary School Futures Committee, is currently being established by the Pelham Select Board. This committee is tasked with exploring a range of options for sustainable education for Pelham K-6 students. As this work continues, it’s important that all ideas are thoughtfully examined before major decisions are made.
Open dialogue, transparency, and broad community participation will be essential to finding solutions that reflect our shared values. Encouraging more conversations, welcoming diverse viewpoints, and maintaining clear communication can help ensure that the path forward is both informed and inclusive.
This infographic is one step in that ongoing conversation—an invitation for community members to learn more, ask questions, and take part in shaping a sustainable and vibrant future for our school and town community.
